Atmospherics

These works span diverse media, but all are efforts to cultivate my own sensibility to atmosphere: the surrounding sensory conditions that infuse every encounter. "Atmospheres," writes the anthropologist Tim Ingold, following the philosopher Gernot Böhme, "are spaces tinctured by the radiations or ecstasies of things as they pour themselves out into the active environment." Light projections for live performance, immersive theatrical encounters, algorithmic studies of sky, color, and wind: each is a way of attending to the moment of encounter, and learning to compose the conditions in which one might occur.
