Cybernetic Gate
Museum and gallery visitors are granted a portal to a digital world in Cybernetic Gate, an interactive structure commissioned by Archivio Nanda Vigo, Milano with DustyEye. Both an artistic homage and a functional work of design, the piece can be displayed on its own as a tabletop installation or placed upon an accompanying tower to serve as self-standing totem. Visitors interact with the piece by bringing their smartphone near the colored disc at the center of the top cavity, automatically opening a video experience onscreen.
The project was inspired by Nanda Vigo's 1972 proposal Environment/Monolocale Comune for MoMA in New York. I designed and built the interactive structure, combining Vigo's color and material vocabulary with my own. Video artist Alessandra Silver brought Vigo's original structural proposal to life through video, featuring sound design by IN ITINERE. The digital portal for the project, realized by CHROMAKAIROS, houses both Vigo's original text, the video artwork, and more information about the artists.
