The AI Arcana

The AI Arcana reimagine classic tarot archetypes through a lens of technological advancement and ecological awareness. There were initially two ways to experience the AI arcana. One is web-based, accessed via an object portal; the second was via Instagram filters until Meta’s decommissioning of this outlet in January 2025.

The web experience draws a single card to reflect upon each day, with the clock turning over at midnight local time. Featuring figures like the Biometric Bloom, Neural Net, Orb-Weaver, and Machine Cycle, the AI Arcana aims to inspire contemplation on our contemporary sensory landscape, shared among people, other living beings, machines, and systems.

The deck was developed in collaboration with the Gemini and Midjourney artificial intelligence models, influenced by the painting style of Lithuanian artist + composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis.
